About Lisa

Currently. I live in Vermont with my daughter, two stepdaughters, a very sweet man, a not-so-sweet cat and an ADHD dog. I have taken my coaching/consulting business online so I can reach, teach and encourage people all over the country instead of just in the Northeast. Oh, and I wanted a blog too. And thanks to a little restructuring, my services are now affordable for more people.

History. For years I made a living doing accounting. Around the time I turned 40, a therapist friend of mine suggested pretty strongly that I should be working with people, not numbers. She thought I'd make a great coach and encouraged me to look into it. I did.

The Coaches Training Institute, approved by the International Coach Federation, provided incomparable training to become a life coach. What a great experience it was! I would do it again even if I never made a dime as a coach.

As much as I loved traditional coaching, I was really drawn toward coaching ADHD adults because I was able to do more of the practical, tactical, action-oriented stuff I am really good at. I was fortunate enough to receive specialized training from Nancy Ratey, one of the founders of ADD coaching and a leading expert in the field. I've been coaching ADD Adults since 2001 and I love their energy, creativity, and intelligence. Sadly, they are often misunderstood, so I am really passionate about educating people on ADHD in adults.

Then I went through a divorce (amicably, thank goodness) and moved to a nearby town where I live with the aforementioned crew. We are "blending" our families, and it is the most rewarding and frustrating thing I've ever done! There is never a lack of fodder for my blog. Now I coach other people in blended families and invariably end up giving advice to other parents about how to raise independent, capable, caring kids.

For as long as I can remember people have asked my opinion when faced with a difficult decision or a sticky situation. As they are pondering what to do, they tell me they find themselves wondering, "What would Lisa say?" So they call me and we talk it over. And that's where the "what would Lisa say" came from.

So what makes me so good at helping others get great results?

I will tell you exactly (and honestly) what makes me good. It doesn't feel like bragging since I readily admit there are plenty of things I am simply terrible at or cannot do. For example, I kill plants (though never intentionally), I am incapable of doing anything that relates to math (except leaving a nice tip) and I do not play sports of any kind. People hire me for the things I am good at and I hire other people for the things they are good at. That just makes sense to me. What I am is:

  • a really good listener
  • truthful
  • compassionate
  • objective
  • "scary smart" (so says a long-time client)
  • direct
  • insightful
  • supportive
  • able to anticipate
  • level headed
  • energizing

Really. Just don't ask me to do your financial planning!

Hope to talk with you soon.
